This one-of-a-kind wooden carousel with needle felted horses is a collaboration between Peter Guglielmetti and Tina Nichols (Me)
My long time friend Peter turned the carousel on a lathe . For the base and the top he used "Bradford Pear" wood and for the center post he turned a piece of exotic wood called "Purple Heart". It took several hours for Peter to create the carousel which has been sanded several times and then it was varnished to give it a lustrous look. Once the carousel was finished it was my turn to create the horses. The little horses were created by repeatedly poking small amounts of wool with a barbed needle to sculpt their shape.
There are a total of four white horses that I have needle felted from fine Merino wool. Each horse has a different color felt blanket that has been embroidered by hand and then embellished with tiny seed beads. They have color matching reigns and halters that have been crocheted. Their eyes are tiny black beads. The hoofs are made from thread. The horses measure about 3 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches tall. The horses are not glued to the thinner poles so they can be moved up and down.
The base of the carousel measures 4 7/8 inches in diameter and the overall height of this carousel is about 8 3/4 inches tall. The carousel is stationary and does not turn.
This unique piece was our first piece of art we have created together and it was exhibited at the 2020 Tennessee Association of Woodturners Symposium in Franklin Tennessee. It is truly a one-of-a kind collectible and would make a great gift for any adult collector.
